Baduwa is from the Dharug word for ‘seek’

The Baduwa project provides a complete end-to-end recruitment service ensuing that local industry is able to source Aboriginal candidates for their workplace.

Yilabara delivers the Baduwa project right across Sydney and the Illawarra Region. Our Baduwa team is based in Illawarra but provides outreach support across all of Sydney. Our Baduwa field officers offer both face-to-face or virtual support to employees and community members. We are committed to ensuring that our community members can secure employment but equally that their experience is a positive one.

Baduwa achieves the following objectives

Employers

  • End to end vacancy support ensuring roles are promoted in a culturally appropriate format.
  • On the job support, mentoring Aboriginal employees in your workplace.
  • Access to cultural training packages for your workplace.
  • Candidate screening to ensure we place the right employee in your workplace.
  • Immediate access to our Aboriginal field officers to troubleshoot any HR issues.

Individuals

  • Access to current vacancies across local industry. 
  • Tips on how to engage with employers.
  • Interview preparation and client assistance (workwear and industry tickets). 
  • On the job support during those early stages of a new job. 
  • Confidential support – yarn to your field officer about challenges you are experiencing.

Good News Story: Baduwa Program Participants Graduate

7 participants in the Baduwa Business Administration pre-employment program graduated after completing a 6-week intensive training course.  

The program gave the participants an opportunity to complete a number of business administration modules with TAFE NSW.
