Parent Pathways

How we support eligible parents

We support eligible parents to:

• Access Parent Pathways
• Identify their personal employment goals
• Identify barriers to employment and how we can work together to address these
• Develop a personalised goal plan
• Access agreed activities and supports including making appointments and accessing transport.

Our commitment to eligible parents

We will engage you in your local community and support you to achieve your personalised Parent Pathways goal plan. To do this we will:

• Run outreach activities in places like shops, parks, children’s services and parent groups.
• Deliver services where you are already receiving support and feel safe including childhood education services, community hubs, multicultural and Indigenous community services as well as our six offices.
• Support you in-person as well as by telephone and videoconferencing.
• Invite you to participate in activities that bring parents and employers together.
• Assist you to access other community services for supports that we don’t deliver like housing, mental health and training, with your agreement.
• Provide you with access to tools that will help you build your resilience informed by our discussions and any completed assessments.

Who we work with to support participants

• Local Aboriginal, multicultural, children’s, gender-specific, health and community services and training providers to facilitate referral to locally based services that meet your needs
• Specialist services to ensure we have up-to-date information on the issues faced by parents from diverse backgrounds
• Key regional forums and interagency groups to explore solutions to barriers faced by parents in their local communities.

Who is Parent Pathways for?

Parent Pathways is for parents and carers who:

• have a child aged under 6
• are not in paid employment
• live in an area where there is a Parent Pathways provider.
  

Receiving one of these payments:

• Parenting Payment
• Carer Payment
• Special Benefit.
  

Eligibility includes those who are not getting a Centrelink payment, and are either:

• under 22 years old
• an early school leaver (parents who don’t have a year 12 qualification)
• a First Nations parent or carer.
